our work

At CARES KZN, our work is rooted in compassion and community. We uplift women, children, and youth across KwaZulu-Natal through education, mentorship, and support for those affected by gender-based violence, poverty, and social injustice. Every project is a step toward healing, empowerment, and lasting change.

GBV & Rape Awareness Campaign

Our support extends beyond care—we focus on prevention, education, and transformation:

  • Distributed over 3,000 educational packs and toiletry kits through clinics, police stations, and NGOs
  • Facilitated referrals to professionals, counsellors, and support centres
  • Delivered 400 “Care Crates” with hygiene items and educational resources to vulnerable women

Addington Hospital’s GBV Crisis Centre received a full makeover—transforming an unwelcoming environment into a safe haven for survivors. This project continues as we upgrade consultation rooms and bathrooms.

COMMUNITY CARE

From distributing stationery and uniforms to helping job-seekers prepare CVs, Cares KZN is committed to meeting practical needs:

  • Surfers Outreach: Every Saturday, disadvantaged youth on the Durban beachfront learn to surf, receive meals, clothing, and mentorship
  • Orphanages & Baby Homes: We supply essentials like food, nappies, clothing, blankets, and learning materials
  • Back to School: Cares has also been instrumental in ensuring children are equipped with school stationery and bags relevant to their Phase through sourcing sponsorship and items and distributing to the vulnerable and needy communities
  • KwaMashu Creche Project:
    Secured perimeter fencing.
Launched a Saturday School with life skills, care, and meals. Provided protective clothing, blankets, and shoes to women and children. These kids were also part of our weekly Sandwich Club where they were fed a nutritious meal.

Future Goals: Establish community health clinics and expand our life skills clinics and youth sports clinics and supply equipment for sport.

EDUCATION & MENTORSHIP GBV Support

We believe in equipping people with knowledge, confidence, and purpose:

  • Held 10 workshops across schools, clinics, and even Westville Correctional Centre for women in 2024
  • Delivered life skills programmes covering suicide prevention, purity, job readiness, and career preparation
  • We partner with Westville Correctional Centre annually during Women’s Month to equip incarcerated mothers with baby stimulation resources, life skills, and dignity packs

DISASTER RELIEF

Cares KZN played a key role in collecting and distributing essential supplies during the 2021 riots and KZN floods. Our teams mobilised quickly to support affected areas, providing emergency aid in the form of food, water, and hygiene supplies.

Our network continues to support communities through targeted relief efforts in times of crisis.
